Yuzuru Hanyu is a Japanese figure skater. Hanyu is the 2014 Olympic champion and Grand Prix final champion. Hanyu is the 2013 and 2014 Japanese National Champion. Hanyu is coached by Brian Orser and Tracy Wilson. Hanyu began skating in 1998.

Junior CareerEdit

During the 2008-2009 Season, Hanyu placed 12th at the Junior Worlds and 5th at the Junior Grand Prix Italy event. Hanyu won the Junior National Japanese Championships and placed 8th at the the Japanese Championships. In the 2009-2010 season, Hanyu won the Junior World Championships, Junior Grand Prix Championships and the Junior Japanese Championships. At the senior level Japanese Championships, Hanyu placed 6th.

Senior CareerEdit

Hanyu turned senior in the 2010-2011 season, competing at the Four Continents Championships where he placed 2nd. At the Japanese National Championships, Hanyu finished 4th. During the 2011-2012 season, Hanyu placed 4th in the Grand Prix Final winning the Rostelecom event and placing 4th at the Cup of China. Hanyu placed 3rd at the Japanese National championships qualifying him to compete at his first senior level worlds, where he would win the bronze. During the 2012-2013 season, Hanyu won his first Japanese title, placed second at the Four Continents championships and second at the Grand Prix final. Hanyu placed fourth at the World Championships. In 2013-2014, Hanyu won the Grand Prix final and his second Japanese Championships. Hanyu competed at the 2014 Sochi Olympics where he won Japan's first ever gold medal in men's singles event.
